Public barred from turtle necropsies

Published: May 3, 2010

— National Marine Fisheries Service, part of NOAA, has shut down access to the necropsies of the turtles found dead on Mississippi beaches due to an ongoing investigation.

The necropsies are being conducted at the Instutute for Marine Mammals Studies in Gulfport. An employee of IMMS told the Sun Herald of the action.

No other information was available on why the decision was made.

No photos, videos or personal observation will be allowed by the media.

NMFS shut down access about 1:30 p.m.
