JACKSON COUNTY - Law enforcement officers today are escorting the body of Ocean Springs police officer Stephen Bond back to South Mississippi, authorities confirmed. His parents are are part of the escort.

Bond died in a boating accident in May. He and four others had gone to Horn Island and on their return trip, their boat capsized. All but Bond was rescued. The other survivors had life jackets.

A search for the 32-year-old former Marine continued in the Mississippi Sound for more than a week after he went missing. A fishing crew from Long Beach discovered Bond's body on the Louisiana side of Chandeleur Islands in January. Dental records allowed officials in Louisiana to positively identify Bond.

Bond's body has been in Louisiana since its discovery.
