JACKSON COUNTY — A Jackson County man is accused of an attempted sex crime against a child and drug and weapon violations that carry enhanced penalties, said Jackson County Sheriff’s Capt. Mick Sears.
Sheriff’s investigators and the Jackson County Drug Task Force took Jamie Guerrero Jr. into custody at his residence on Tuesday. The 43-year-old lives on Waycross Drive in St. Martin.
Sears said the sex-crime allegation accuses Guerrero of pulling down the pants of a 14-year-old girl who is an acquaintance.
He also is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm while having a quantity of marijuana large enough to suspect he planned to distribute it.
The presence of a firearm in the drug allegation is an enhanceable offense.
Sears said the penalty can carry up to 60 years in prison plus $10 million in fines.
Guerrero was held without bond at the Jackson County jail pending an initial appearance.
County Court Judge T. Larry Wilson has since set bonds totalling $15,000. Guerrero remained in custody Friday afternoon.
