Gulfport couple held in armed robbery

GULFPORT — Police arrested a Gulfport couple on an armed robbery charge 11/2 hours after a holdup Sunday at a gas station on U.S. 49.

Investigators accused Michael Shane Powell, 22, of being the gunman and Rachel Juanita Gallatin, 29, as the driver of the getaway car.

The holdup was at a Shell gas station in the 9500 block of U.S. 49.

Police Sgt. Adam Cooper said a man entered the store displaying a handgun and took money out of the cash register, then left in a red car driven by a woman.

The store called police at 2:25 p.m. Police took the couple into custody at 3:50 p.m. in the 3200 block of 55th Avenue.

Both were taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center. Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray set bonds at $200,000 for Powell and $50,000 for Gallatin.

The jail docket shows both live on 55th Avenue.
