A look at the week in crime and courts:
n Former youth coach Scott Yancey, 38, of Long Beach pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Cour t to receiving and possessing child pornography on a computer. Yancey faces 15 to 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when he is sentenced. He also still faces molestation charges.
n A day care in an Ocean Springs home was raided Tuesday by the Jackson County Narcotics Task Force. Officers found two inactive meth labs and meth cooking material. They arrested caregiver Brenda Jane Sumrall; her husband, Henry Alfred Sumrall; their son, Mark Sumrall; and a woman who worked for them. The three caregivers face multiple child endangerment charges. Mark Timothy Sumrall is accused of manufacturing meth, generating drug waste and child endangerment.
n Jackson County employee Ginger Lynn Lashley was arrested Friday by Jackson County sheriff’s deputies after $125,000 was found missing from the county Finance Department. The state Auditor’s Office has been called in to determine whether additional funds are missing.
n Four suspects were taken into custody after appearing in the Sun Herald’s South Mississippi’s Most Wanted feature last Sunday. They are Douglas Cameron Gilbert and Sheli Sisk, a Pass Christian couple charged with possession of meth precursors; Christopher Lee Luther of Diamondhead, accused of identity theft and defrauding banks; and Willie Julius Dove, wanted by Gulfport police on a burglary charge.
