D’IBERVILLE — A Gulfport man has been charged with arson in a criminal complaint alleging he set his mother’s D’Iberville apartment on fire in an act of retaliation.

Andre Jermaine Thomas is accused of causing substantial damage to his mother’s apartment because she wouldn’t let him borrow her car, said D’Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne.

The victim called 911 from her apartment late Friday night and reported it was on fire and she was still inside. The woman escaped and identified her son as the suspect, Payne said.

The fire was at Amber Apartments on Amber Drive.

Police took Thomas into custody and transported him to the Harrison County jail.

Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set bond at $50,000 pending an initial appearance.

The jail docket lists Thomas’ address as Dedeaux Road in Gulfport.
