The National Weather Service in New Orleans has upgraded its advisory to a flash flood warning for the Biloxi River near Lyman from late tonight through Wednesday morning.

At 6 a.m., the stage was at 4.9 feet. Flood stage is 12 feet. The National Weather Service said minor flooding is forecast and when the river hits flood stage, the river road near Three Rivers Road bridge will begin to flood.

Meanwhile, the flash flood watch for the rest of South Mississippi is still in effect until this afternoon because of a series of rainstorms moving through the region in advance of a cold front.

The heaviest rain is expected through the daytime hours before diminshing in intesity and coverage.

The flash flood watch is in effect for South Mississippi including Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River counties.

Rainfall is expected to be 1 to 2 inches with heavier amounts of 3 to 4 inches in places.

This is expected to cause street flooding and possible flooding of canals and small streams and potentially more serious flooding of property.

A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
