Heat shelter opens

By melissa66 on 06/24/09 18:37

The excessive heat has prompted the city of Gulfport to open one of its senior centers to anyone who doesn't have access to air conditioning. The Charles Walker Senior Center at 4008 8th St. will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday for seniors and families who need some relief from the hot weather. The National Weather Service has extended the heat advisory for South Mississippi until 7 p.m. Thursday. Temperatures will be in the upper 90s, and the heat index will be between 105 and 110.
