Good times were rolling at the Second Annual Mardi Gras Ball, which was held for local Harrison County seniors age 55 and older.
Guests attended the ball at Handsboro Community Center on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 11 am until 1 pm. Over 200 seniors were present at the event. Seniors grooved to authentic New Orleans jazz music and enjoyed fresh, Louisiana-style po-boys and authentic King Cake in tradition with the holiday. Masks, hats, beads, and balloons were given to guests to help celebrate and enjoy the spirit of the day.
Attendees were treated to a visit from the King and Queen of the Ball, who were chosen during the event. The King and Queen paraded around the Ball tossing necklaces to the crowd. King was Warren Hitchcock and Queen was Juanice Freeman, who are both active at the Woolmarket Senior Center. Everyone joined in after their inaugural walk for line dancing and a dance parade.
