Carnival Association of Long Beach held its 48th annual Mardi Gras Ball on February 13, 2009, at the West Harrison County Civic Center in Long Beach.
The theme for this years event was An Affair with Bond. The tableau began at 8 p.m. with the presentation of CALB Officers and Chairmen.
Membership Chairman Alice Miller, Parade Chairman Donald Frazer, Costume Design Maureen Sheets, Float Chairman Mike Morgan, Logo and Graphic Designs Michael Magandy. Board Members; Pastor St Thomas Church Fr. Louis Lohan, Principal St Vincent dePaul School Elizabeth Fortenberry, Officers; Past President Mark McMillian, Parliamentarian Phyllis Seal, Secretary Cathy Warden, Treasurer Katie Hicks, Vice President Holly Farve and President Peggy Morgan.
Master of Ceremonies was Bill Seal.
The Ball Captain for the evening festivities was the ever suave and debonair Bond, James Bond 007, portrayed by Mike Morgan.
Reigning royalty 2008 King Scott the 47th Johnny Favre and Queen Rosalie 2008 Cindy Cox were presented, followed by the King & Queen of the Krewe of Wrecks, King Timmy Carlson and Queen Sarah Simpson.
Representing various characters from Bond movies were the royal court members, Duke Roi Stovall and Maid Jennifer Mink portraying Dr, No and bond girl Honey Rider from Dr. No.
Duke Wayne McDowell and Maid Carolyn Anderson portrayed the parts of From Russia with Love, Blofeld and Tatiana Romanova.
From Goldfinger we have Duke Ben Dilorenzo as Odd Job and Maid Michelle Seal as MS. Galore.
You Only Live Twice had Duke Kyle Madigan as Tiger Tanaka and Maid Natalie Madigan as Aki.
Duke Matt Walton portrayed Quarrel Jr. and Maid Lynn Mulherrin as Solitaire from Live and Let Die.
Duke Gary Ponthieux was Jaws from Moonraker escorting Maid Deena Kuntz as Holly Goodhead.
From The World is Not Enough Duke Jay Oberlies portrayed Renard and Maid Heather Rose was Elektra. Duke Anthony Seal as Col. Moon portrayed characters from Die Another Day and Maid Ashleigh Seal was Jinx.
Duke Darren Mayer portrayed Gettler and Maid Audrey Mayer as Bond Girl Valenka from Casino Royale. The 2008-2009 presentation of their Royal Majesties King Scott 48th Jason Green and Queen Rosalie 2009 Leigh Seal highlighted the tableau.
Our 2008 outgoing royalty King Scott 47th Johnny Favre and Queen Rosalie 2008 Cindy Cox presented Jason And Leigh with the royal scepters and took their final walk.
Royal pages to King Scott were Frank Clinton Allen IV and Cameron Oberlies; Pages to Queen Rosalie were Jordan Seal and Rylee MaCaffrey.
King Scott honored his parents Delbert and Evelyn Green as well as the Riemann Family. Queen Rosalie honored her parents, Susan and Pat Madigan and Ronnie Estapa. She also honored her husband Billy Seal along with their daughters; Kadie, Braydon and Addyson, Her Father and mother-in-law, Bill and Phyllis Seal.
King Scott 48th read his royal proclamation, which was followed by the Grand Promenade. After the promenade King Scott and Queen Rosalie danced the first dance and then were joined by the royal court members. Music was provided by Mr. Big from Pensacola Fla.
Decorations for the Ball were done by Decorations committee members; Maureen Sheets, Melissa Gates, Tara Meleones, Carolyn Anderson, Nita Gross, Dee Cospelich and Charmin Ryle.
CALB parade was held on Sunday February 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. The parades Grand Marshal was Rob Stinson from Lookout 49 and Salute and the parade featured more than 40 units that rolled under blue skies and sunshine.
