The Krewe of Pages held its seventeenth annual Mardi Gras Ball on January 23, 2009 at the St. Martin Community Center. The theme was Disney on Parade. Just the word Disney brings out the kid in everyone from 1 to 99.
The Heralder, Master Carter Blackmon, opened the ball. Carter is the 6 year old son of Valerie and Scott Blackmon.
The past royalty for 2008 was King Michael Schram and Queen Amanda Schram.
Entering the ballroom next was the lovely Princess, Miss Chelsea Williams, the 16 year old daughter of Oren Williams and JoAnn Watson. Chelsea was attired in a beautiful red strapless evening gown accentuated with rhinestones.
Miss Brooke Ezell was the captain for the evenings festivities. Brooke is the 14 year old daughter of Andy and Elise Brown and Steven and Dawn Conner. In keeping with the Disney theme she was attired in an Ariel costume and her escort for the evening was David Jamison.
Disneys High School Musical has been the topic of many conversations. The first performing group was the Krewes own High School Musical Stars. The group consisted of Parish Blackmon, Alyssa Cooper, Sophia Cooper, Gabrielle Cox, Hannah Derouen, Jordan Engel, Chelsea Groue, Breanna Kopszywa, Alexis Montgomery, Alyson Payne, Alex Simer and Sadie Warden.
Entering the ballroom next was a hip version of the ever-so-popular Mickey Mouse Club. They paraded and performed to the Mickey Mouse March. Club members were Carter Blackmon, Landon Evangelista, Alley Blackmon, Paige Yennie, Logan Cooper, Logan Brown, Lauren Stringer, Preston Stringer and Chloe Simar.
Keeping in the tradition of the Krewe of Pages all the maids wore white formal gowns of different styles accentuated with stones. The dukes wore basic black tuxedoes.
The first royal couple to be introduced was Duke Cade Parish Ross and Maid Breanna Kopszywa. Cade is the 10 year old son of Jennifer Ross and the late Chris Ross. Breanna is the 13 year old daughter of Mark and Dena Kopszywa.
The next royal couple introduced was Duke Joseph Spires and Maid Brooke Dimitry. Joseph is the 9 year old son of Patty Spires and Dave Spires. Brooke is the 8 year old daughter of Alex and Cheryl Dimitry.
Duke Logan Brown and Maid Jordan McKenna Engel made their entrance into the ballroom. Logan is the 9 year old son of Elise and Andy Brown. Jordan is the 12 year old daughter of Melanie Engel and John Engel.
Next entering from the Princess carriage was Duke Jon Hunter Desporte and Maid Alex Simer. Hunter is the 14 year old son of Dale and Susan Desporte. Alex is the 12 year old daughter of Tim and Sandy Simer.
Each maid entered the ballroom with a jeweled feathered mask to conceal her identity.
Emerging into the ballroom next were the pages and the flower girl. The page to the King was Sophia Fimiano who was dressed as a Disney princess with jeweled tiara. Sophia is the 6 year old daughter of Dominick and Ashley Fimiano. The page to the Queen was Ethan Bennett who was attired in a Captain Hook costume from Peter Pan. Ethan is the 6 year old son of Christina Bennett.
The flower girl, Haley Bennett, was attired in Disney princess costume complete with a jeweled tiara. Haley is the 5 year old daughter of Christina Bennett.
Emerging from the lighted carriage was the 2009 King of the Krewe of Pages, the handsome and debonair King Mathew George Ross.
King Mathew is the 15 year old son of Walter E. Ross, III and Maria Ross. King Mathew represented Princess Edward from Disneys Enchanted. His Majesty was attired in a burgundy velvet suit with a tunic bearing the Ross crest on his chest. A kings crown stick pin, a gift from Ms. Margaret Bullock and Mr. Floyd Bullock was pinned next to his crest. He had a velvet cape with a jeweled fleur de lis symbol in the center. His suit was accentuated with turquoise satin. At his waist was a jeweled sword. King Mathew wore brown leather boots that had turquoise jeweled cuffs accentuated with a jeweled fleur de lis. He had brown leather gloves with jeweled turquoise cuffs. His entire ensemble was heavily accentuated with spotlight sequins and spotlight braid. He wore a traditional crown of silver and rhinestones and carried a silver and rhinestone fleur de lis scepter.
Joining King Mathew and entering from the lighted carriage was the beautiful, talented and elegant Queen of the Krewe of Pages Queen Chelsea Groue.
Queen Chelsea is the daughter of Johnny and Linda Groue. Queen Chelsea represented Princess Giselle from Enchanted. Her Majesty was attired in a beautiful turquoise strapless gown. The bodice was heavily jeweled and the full shirred skirt was accentuated with rhinestones. To complete her attire she wore a silver traditional crown of rhinestones and carried a silver and rhinestone scepter.
It is the tradition of the Krewe of Pages to wear the train with the Krewe of Pages symbol and the beautiful white heavily feathered collar. The train and collar are passed down each year to the reigning royalty.
Princess Chelsea Williams presented a dozen roses to Queen Chelsea Groue.
The stage was decorated with a Disney castle to include lighted flashing fireworks. Throughout the ballroom were gold windows complete with Disney characters.
Mrs. Libby Harper, the President of North Bay Area Mardi Gras Association, was presented with an engraved plaque in appreciation for the sponsorship of the Krewe of Pages and for all the help they have provided the Krewe during the year.
Mr. Arnold Blackmon was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and Devin Sonnier provided the music.
After the presentation the Krewe enjoyed a night of dancing.
Members of the Court were presented gifts the night of rehearsal. The Krewe is open to children ages 5-17. Anyone interested in becoming a member may call Valerie Blackmon at 282-3702.
