HANCOCK COUNTY -- Authorities today identified a north county resident who was killed last Sunday while riding a bicycle on a rural highway.

Richard Bartell, 69, died of “multiple and massive bodily injuries” in the accident that occurred on Mississippi Highway 43, Hancock County Coroner Norma Stiglet said. His identity was withheld until Stiglet could locate and notify next of kin in another state.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol had said Bartell was riding a bicycle northbound on the highway about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when he swerved in front of a car headed in the same direction. No charges were filed in the case.
