Show us your inks

A few weeks ago, we ran an expansive piece on the predominance of tattoos in South Mississippi. Our staff, myself included, decided that now was as good a time as any to really shine the spotlight on this art form. We have no plans on taking the spotlight off of it, either. We want to show the world the variety of ink here on the Coast. And you can help us.

Each week, we will print a “Tattoo of the Week” and post tattoos on our Web site, www.sunherald.com. It’s our way of showing appreciation for the hours of brain-numbing pain you or your friends endured to have a needle shoved deep into your skin a few hundred thousand times. If you have a tattoo, we want to see it. If your sister has a tattoo, we want to see it. And if your dog or cat has a tattoo, then we really want to see it.

You got your ink for a reason. It’s a part of you in more ways than one. Show it off! Be proud of your flaming skulls, butterflies, loved ones or favorite band. Take a picture of it and send it to me at jhooks@sunherald.com. We strive every day to tell the story of South Mississippi in all its forms. Your story is no less interesting just because you’ve got a dragon tattoo crawling up your arm and halfway across your chest, or a USM Eagle logo tacked onto the side of your neck. Come on, people.
