E-mails I can't throw away

As much as we rely on e-mail in our jobs and lives, it can be a burden, burning up time to go through dozens, or in some cases hundreds, a day.

My goal for work e-mail is to deal with it as quickly as possible by answering, forwarding or trashing it. The ones that need to hang around get moved to folders for safekeeping. There's one labeled Goofy Press Releases for those too impossible to use but too hilarious to delete.

You might be surprised at how populated this little folder can get. Let me share a few from the latest crop.

Some off-balance writer copied me on his rantings addressed to the "Generals and other Officers over Myanmar: We are watching your situation with increasing annoyance. Your immediate action will appease our growing annoyance."

This is pretty far afield from a business topic but the sender explained how it ended up in the newsroom: "You are receiving this message because you have a persistently public e-mail address. Please simply hit delete if you do not want to receive my e-mails. Please forward this as the spirit leads."

Hmmm. Persistently public e-mail address. Wonder what the cure for that is.

International e-mails are especially intriguing, like the one offering a free trip to Mexico to check out a new resort: "Taste the flavors from regions all across Mexico, enjoy special performances by world-renowned illusionist Nathan Burton and Grammy Award-winning recording artist Pepe Aguilar. Poolside fireworks and gifts."

Space, needless to say, was limited. I hope whoever took my place on this junket had a grand time in Cancun with Nathan and Pepe.

On a more business-related note, José Amaral, agricultural business consultant, sent along some facts and figures.

"Dear Mr/Ms, Scot Consultoria is pleased to send you the last Carta Boi edition, the Brazilian Beef Cattle Report. Carta Boi has all the beef market data and information collected and analyzed by Scot Consultoria. Enjoy it! Any doubts or questions, please feel free to contact us."

No doubts or questions from Biloxi, thanks.

This one doesn't say it's from a foreign sender but my guess is, it is.

"Dear Sir/Madam, We are manufacturer of number puzzles to be presented to readers for their leisure time. Number Puzzles are in fact the number version of Crosswords. These have been tested many times internationally to its success and popularity. If you are interested to buy one on line, samples attached, kindly let us know. This is for Print Edition in particular and Internet edition in general. It costs 2 dollars a set (Puzzles+Solution)."

Priceless.
